Abstract

Hypertension is a disease of high blood pressure that can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and death, which continues to increase, especially in Indonesia. Antihypertensive drugs from the point of view of treating high blood pressure, conventional antihypertensive drugs often have effects that can cause other diseases if not treated properly. Herbal medicines are widely used as alternative medicine because they are considered safer than conventional medicine. This review article is intended to provide information on the potential of herbal medicinal plants in treating hypertension. There are Ocimum basilicum, Allium sativum L., Punica granatum, Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Psidium guajava Linn., Annona muricata, Olea europaea, and Anacardium occidentale. Most of these antihypertensive herbal medicinal plants contain active compounds with antihypertensive activity, namely antioxidants, flavonoids, and phenols.
