Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability to read the beginning which is caused by an inappropriate learning method. This study aims to improve early reading skills through the storytelling method at RA AN NUR Pejagoan Kebumen. This research uses classroom action research (CAR) where the storytelling method with hand puppet media is applied in learning. The research subjects were 10 children. Data collection techniques in this study using observation and documentation. Data analysis uses quantitative analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that the storytelling method can improve children's ability to read at the beginning. The results of Cycle I were 70%, then increased by 20% in Cycle II to 90%. Early reading improvement includes children being able to understand language and express language. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the storytelling method can improve early reading skills in children aged 5-6 years at RA AN NUR Pejagoan.
