Analisis Teknik dan Kualitas Terjemahan Humor pada Fitur Auto-Subtitle Klip Stand-Up Comedy Matt Rife

This study examines the application of translation techniques and the evaluation of translation quality in a stand-up comedy clip by Matt Rife, as well as how these two aspects can influence the delivery of humor in the target language (Bsu). This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques consisting of translated text transcripts generated by the auto-subtitle feature and the distribution of questionnaires to raters, to achieve the objective of evaluating and presenting the linguistic reality and technical accuracy of a feature on the digital platform YouTube that cannot be measured solely through statistical figures. Data analysis was conducted by identifying translation techniques based on the theory proposed by Molina & Albir (2002), calculating translation quality scores based on the model developed by Nababan et al. (2012), and analyzing the classification of humor elements according to Zabalbeascoa’s (1996) contextual system. Based on a corpus of 25 data points with a total of 34 occurrences of translation techniques, the application of literal translation was found to account for 55.8%, making it the most dominant technique used. Meanwhile, the use of the modulation technique accounted for 3% and the calque technique for 3%; these were identified as the least frequently used techniques by the auto-subtitle feature in the clips examined in this study. n addition, the translation quality assessment showed that the score for accuracy was 46.7%, followed by a score of 58% for acceptability, and a score of 73.3% for readability. Overall, the translations produced by the auto-subtitle feature on YouTube are able to convey messages accurately and are accepted by the target readers and viewers. However, this feature is still considered ineffective in preserving the pragmatic function of humorous contexts, due to the system’s frequent reliance on literal translation techniques during the translation process. Consequently, this leads to a significant loss of humorous context in the translations, both in terms of wordplay (linguistic elements) and cultural references and societal background (community and institutional elements).
