Abstract

Reading is one of the important character education values given to children. Because getting children used to reading not only supports the development of language and cognitive abilities, but also forms a positive character that will have a long-term impact on life. This study aims to describe the process of forming a reading character with picture story books. The approach used in the study is descriptive qualitative with observation, interview, and documentation data collection techniques. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity testing uses triangulation techniques, namely technique triangulation and source triangulation. The results of the study showed that the level of children's reading enthusiasm was quite good and enthusiasm in reading picture story books. This can be seen from the increase in reading frequency, understanding of story content, and the ability to retell the story that was read.
