Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to recognize the symbols of numbers 1-10 through the media of illustrated number cards in children aged 4-5 years in TK Pertiwi 14.25.13 Sikayu. This research is motivated by the low ability to recognize the symbols of numbers 1-10 due to the use of inappropriate media, as evidenced by the results of the initial pre-action with an average percentage of 56.29%. This research is a type of classroom action research with the Kemmis and Taggart model with the stages of planning, action and observation, reflection. The research process was carried out in 2 cycles at the beginning of the odd semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. The subjects in this study were children aged 4-5 years, totaling 15 children. Data collection techniques using observation and documentation. The data analysis technique uses quantitative descriptive. The results of this study indicate that picture number card media can improve children's ability to recognize the symbols of numbers 1-10. The result of the first cycle was 68.64% then increased by 12% in the second cycle to 90.12%. The increase in recognizing number symbols includes children being able to name numbers 1-10, children can sort symbols for numbers 1-10, children can pair numbers with the number of objects. Based on these results, it can be concluded that illustrated number card media can improve the ability to recognize the symbols of numbers 1-10 in children aged 4-5 years in TK Pertiwi 14.25.13 Sikayu.
